NORTON – David J. “Uncle Dave” Stefanko, age 73, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2017.

Born on December 3, 1943 in Sherman, OH to the late John R. and Ida L. (Youtzy) Stefanko, he was a resident of Norton for 9 years and was previously of Illinois.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. serving as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. Dave was employed as a chef for various restaurants.  Aside from his love of fishing and playing euchre, he was a great cook and loved to eat his favorite Mexican foods at El Jalapenos Restaurant.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob, Jim, John, Bill, Tom, and Denny; sisters, Dorothy Scaffidi, Betty McClintock; he is survived by his daughter, Traci (Simon) Pheneger of Norton; son, David Jr. (Julie) Stefanko of MO; grandchildren, Jordan, Madison, Devin, Willow, Draven, Jasmine, Mikel; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse for all of their support and kind words.

Inurnment with military honors will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
