DOYLESTOWN – Dr. Philip N. Gilcrest M.D., age 89, passed away on September 9, 2017.

Born on November 19, 1927 in New Cumberland, WV to the late Laurence B. and Nell (Hesse) Gilcrest, he had been a resident of Doylestown since 1956.  A 1950 graduate of The Ohio State University, Philip obtained his M.D. in 1954, also at Ohio State, and then interned at both Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach Florida, and City Hospital in Springfield, OH.  He was in private medical practice in Doylestown from 1956 until 2014. A veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army Air Corp., he was a longtime member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church, Doylestown Lions, the OSU Presidents Club, Ohio Medical Association, and Ohio Academy of Family Practice.  He served on the Chippewa Local school board for 16 years and was an avid supporter of local athletics, serving as team physician for the Chippewa Local football team. Dr. Gilcrest had a passion for helping the people of his community no matter the age and circumstance, and working closely with his office staff and special friends, Louise Porter, Sandy Fouts, Janet Marshall, Nola Maki, and Janet Dignan.

Preceded in death by his wife, Irene; brothers, Roger, Laurence, Dale B., and Kent Gilcrest; sisters, Carol Johnson, Margery Wolfe, and Dorothy Purkey. He is survived by his son, Roger A. (Patti) Gilcrest of Delaware, OH; daughter, Laura (Ramas) Gilcrest of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Tyler (Courtney), Evan, and Lauren; brother, Dana (Evelyn) Gilcrest of Irondale, OH; sisters-in-law, Janice Gilcrest of College Station, TX, Patricia Camp of Portage Lakes, Marguerite Abbott of Norton; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 12 p.m. at the Doylestown United Methodist Church, 153 Church St., Doylestown, OH, 44230 with Pastor Dale Warrick, officiating.  Private inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chippewa Local Schools, 56 N.
