DALTON – Garland E. Smith, age 88, passed away on August 23, 2017.

Born on August 12, 1929 in Lewisville, OH to the late Charles and Sophia (Kestner) Smith, Garland was a resident of Dalton since 1943.  Retiring from Dalton Hardware in 1973 and previously with Adams Lumber, Garland was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army.  A member of the Dalton United Methodist Church, and the American Legion, he was a life member of the Dalton of the Dalton V.F.W.  He enjoyed going to time trials every year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Garland is preceded in death by his wife Shirleen in 2016; son, Keith; brother, Wayne Smith; sister, Carolyn Smith; sister-in-law, Darlene Sapp. He is survived by his brother, Gary (Edna) Smith of Strasburg; dear friends, Terry and Lynn West, and Myrtle Reynolds.
