DOYLESTOWN – Irene M. Gilcrest, age 88, passed away on August 21, 2017.

Born on August 6, 1929 in Akron to Michael and Mary (Scalia) Labriola, she was a resident of Doylestown since 1956.  Upon her graduation from the School of Nursing at The Ohio State University, she worked at Akron Children’s Medical Center, and was later administrator of the Sara Lee Nursing Home.  While continuing to dedicate her life to her family and her career, she also worked at her husband’s Medical Office and various other medical facilities. However, her first love was fine art and interior design, and she was active as a docent with the Akron Museum of Art.  She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Joseph; she is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Philip Gilcrest; son, Roger A. (Patti) Gilcrest of Delaware, OH ; daughter, Laura Gilcrest of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Tyler (fiancé, Courtney Deruy), Evan, and Lauren; sisters, Patricia Camp of Portage Lakes, Marguerite Abbott of Norton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 161 W. Clinton St., Doylestown 44230 with Fr. Robert Stein, Celebrant. A private inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron Museum of Art, 1 S.
