Elizabeth "Liz" A. Hauenstein

DALTON – Elizabeth “Liz” A. Hauenstein, age 87, passed away on April 21, 2024.

Born in Inez, KY on November 5, 1936 to the late James H. and Dixie (Ward) Muncy, Liz grew up in Moreland on the family farm. She was a graduate of Wooster High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in education from the College of Wooster. Liz had been a resident of Dalton since 1961 and worked as a teacher at Franklin Elementary and later Dalton Elementary. She also worked on the family farm managing the pig farrowing house. A member of Dalton Presbyterian Church, she taught weekly adult bible study and Sunday school. She was a part of the Ohio Daylilies and Ohio Lily Societies, as well as the Sugar Creek Grange.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hauenstein; twin brother, Jim “Bud” Muncy; sister, Ruth (Tony) Sandore; and beloved pug, Sherman. Liz is survived by her children, Carol, Scott (Linda), and Robin Hauenstein, all of Dalton; grandchildren, Sarah and Curtis Hauenstein; sisters-in-law, Patricia Muncy of Millersburg, and Fae (Harley) Gerber of Kidron; many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Mom doted on her grandchildren; they were the light of her life. She loved reading, especially mysteries. A lifelong learner and teacher, Mom enjoyed studying Scripture and Bible commentaries. She loved watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds, and worked tirelessly in her gardens and flowerbeds. Time spent visiting with friends and retirement activities with Dad were important to her, so was chocolate. Her dog, Sherman T. Pug provided nearly ten years of happiness for Mom and Dad. 

Funeral service will be Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Dalton Presbyterian Church, 163 W. Main St., Dalton, OH, 44618 with Pastor Sally Fusek, officiating.  Burial will be at Dalton Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.
