CANTON – James E. Fleming, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2018.
Born on September 4, 1930 in Brownton, WV to the late Johnson P. and Geneva (Davis) Fleming, he was a resident of Canton for over 50 years. Jim retired from Republic Steel and had been a truck driver for various local companies. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Jim loved to go fishing, attending car shows, collecting coins and spending time with his granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Pearl in 2017; son, James D. Fleming; sister, Nancy (Roger) Layman. Jim is survived by his daughter in-law, Amy Fleming of Marshallville; granddaughter, Amanda Fleming; sister in-law, Mable “Marie” (Bill) Dankmyer of Johnson City, TN; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, 44230. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Michaels Cemetery in Marshallville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
