DALTON – Leah M. Shammo, age 74, passed away on February 4, 2019.
Born in Dalton, OH on July 15, 1944 to the late Hiram and Abbie (Slemmer) Shammo, she was a life resident. A graduate of Malone College, Leah retired from Dalton Local Schools after 30 years of service as a third and fifth grade teacher. She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Brethren Church and later Cornerstone Community Church and enjoyed playing the organ and piano at both churches for several years. Leah’s passion was collecting and restoring dolls and had even given lectures on the process of doll restoration. She also loved her flower gardens, starting very early in the spring every year with her plan to develop those gardens. Leah was also an avid lover of dogs and had raised and trained a number of puppies throughout her life.
Preceded in death by her brother; George (Betty) Shammo; sister, Alice Withrich; brother-in-law, Ray Loomis, she is survived by her brother, Hiram Shammo of Dalton; sister, Ruth Loomis of Ft. Wayne, IN; brother-in-law, Alvin Withrich of Dalton; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 18600 Davis Rd., Dalton, OH, 44618 with Pastor Tim Hull, officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Dalton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
