DOYLESTOWN – Lois A. Giltz, age 90, passed away on July 30, 2018.
Born on January 1 1928 in Massillon City Hospital to Gordon Granvil and Mary Louise (Hoffman) Giltz, she was a resident of Doylestown, previously of Newman and Massillon, OH. A graduate of Massillon Washington High School, Lois moved to Los Angeles, Ca in 1951 and was employed as an operator for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. She returned to Ohio in 1955 to work for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. in Akron as an operator and service representative. She retired from the Akron office in 1978. In 1980 she moved to Doylestown to become a Lady Farmer, moving from the countryside to the city side in 1993. Lois was an active member in the Doylestown community serving 2 terms as President of the Lioness Club and one term as President of her beloved Garden Club. She was a member of the Rogues Hollow Historical Society, Records Commission of Doylestown, and worked for the Board of Elections. She wrote about life in Doylestown for The Daily Record, The Barberton Herald and the Post newspapers. She was also a contributing member of the GOP, USO, Telephone Pioneers and United States Humane Society. Lois was a diehard sports fan. Her 3 loves were the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the U.S. Naval Academy.
Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ron and dear friend, Jean Dillinger, she is survived by her sister, Evelyn Conley; many nieces and nephews, friend and caregiver, Pat Harrison.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, 44230 with Fr. David Majikas, officiating. Burial to take place at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Doylestown Garden Club, 9 Byron Dr., Doylestown, OH 44230 or to St. Augustine Catholic School Education Fund, 195 7th St. NW, Barberton, OH 44203.
