Mary L. Heckert

March 22, 1940 ~ September 6, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

CANTON – Mary L. Heckert, age 77, passed away on September 6, 2017 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Elkins, WV to the late Robert E. and Estelle L. (Pennington) Cannady, she was a resident of East Canton since 2004, previously of Ellet.  Mary retired from Akron General with 20 years of service, and loved working for Sarchione’s Auto Group delivering cars for 10 years with her husband. She attended the Chapel in Marlboro, and loved cooking (especially pizza), NASCAR, and spending time in her gardens tending to her flowers.  

Mary is preceded in death by her daughter, Merry Leigh (Joe) Gregory; brothers, Mike, Marty, and Marvin; sister, Marsh.  She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Melvin; sons, R. Buddy (Mima) Ferrebee of Kenmore, Mark (Tracy) Ferrebee of Anderson, IN, Jay Ferrebee of Kenmore; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; step-children, Melvin Jerald (Jetha) Heckert and Melvin Glenn (Pam) Heckert all of AZ, Melvin Doyle “Tim” (Allison) Heckert of CA; 6 step grandchildren; one step great grandchild; half-brother, Bob Cannady.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Deborah Plate and the entire Sarchione Auto Group for the care and compassion given to Mary and her family through her illness.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel in Marlboro, 8700 Edison St. (St. Rt. 619), Louisville, OH 44641 with Pastors Don Davies and Joel Cochran, officiating. Private inurnment to take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CancerCare, 275 Seventh Ave., New York, NY 10001.  Online obituary and guest registry are available at www.zakmonbarrenfh.com
