NORTON – Ray Holderbaum, age 84, passed on to his eternal home on July 2, 2019.
Ray, the firstborn son of the late Paul and Marie (Hilt) Holderbaum, was born on October 10, 1934 in Barberton, OH. He was a resident of Norton and a 1953 graduate of Norton High School where he met Barbara, the love of his life. Ray was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Doylestown. He was a sports enthusiast and a loyal fan of both Notre Dame and Duke Universities. In his earlier years he coached baseball, was in a bowling league, and loved to bicycle. After retiring from Chempower, Ray did maintenance and grounds keeping at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, where he also kept Holy Hour every Friday. He was the owner and operator of Ray’s Garden Plants & Flowers for over 30 years. Ray loved his customers, and they loved him. He was a devout Catholic; a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
Ray is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Deanna Johns; sister, JoAnn (Dick) Beitel; brother, Richard Holderbaum; brother in-law, William Meredith. He is survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 65 years; children, Debra (Richard) Smith of Greenville, SC, William (Cindi) Holderbaum of Mogadore, Maria (Robert) Ross, James (Mary) Holderbaum, Nancy (Tim) Johns, all of Barberton, Edward (Tae) Holderbaum of Odenton, MD, Robert (Jodi) Holderbaum of Coventry; 24 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a great great-grandson; brothers, Thomas, Leroy, Larry (Jan), Brent (Michelle) Holderbaum; sisters, Patricia (Richard) Studenic, Carol Meredith, Eileen (Lonna) Holderbaum; other family and many friends.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 161 W. Clinton Rd., Doylestown with Fr. Robert Stein, Celebrant. Burial to take place in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School, 169 W. Clinton Rd., Doylestown, OH 44230.
