Sybil I. Barnes

DOYLESTOWN – Sybil I. Barnes, age 94, passed away on May 3, 2018.

Born on January 9, 1924 in Holmes County, OH to Carl and Helen (Hughes) McGuire, she was a resident of Doylestown for 70 years.  Sybil retired from Chippewa Local Schools as a cook for Hazel Harvey Elementary after many years. She was a member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church, and loved working with her husband in their garden and canning the things they grew.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald McGuire; sister, Doris Doty, and son in-law, Barton “Butch” Strawbridge. Sybil is survived by her husband, William. They were just 20 days short of celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary.  She is also survived by her children, Susan F. Wilk of Cuyahoga Falls, Patricia I. Strawbridge of Barberton, William (Monica) Barnes of Merritt Island, FL; granddaughters, Irene (Ryan) Cummins, Karen Strawbridge; great grandchildren, Destany (Tommy) Davis, Danielle, Michael and Ryan Cummins; great great-grandchildren, Lillian, Amelia and Matthew; sisters, Ruth Ross of Loudonville, OH, Janice (Leo) Tope of Lakeville, OH.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Doylestown United Methodist Church, 153 Church St., Doylestown 44230 with Pastor Dale Warrick, officiating. 
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 300 N. Cleveland Massillon Rd.
