MASSILLON - Amparo G. Adkins, age 85, passed away on November 7, 2022.
Born on October 12, 1937 in Colombia, South America to the late Efrain and Carmen (Mendez) Garcia, she came to the United States in 1965 and had been a resident of Massillon for 19 years, previously of Houston, TX. Amparo had been the owner of Welch Beauty Salon while living in Houston. She loved music, especially Columbian, and dancing which brought her to St. George through the Carpathian Men’s Club Polka Fest at that time. She was a proud member of St. George Romanian Catholic Cathedral in Canton, where she was very much involved in all fundraising activities of the Church: Fish Fry, Festival, dinners etc., and enjoyed volunteering at the Massillon Museum.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Ligia. Amparo is survived by her brothers, Dartagnan, Efrain, Anibal, and Francisco; sisters, Noemi, and Elsa all of Colombia, South America; other family and special friends, Martha Matallana, and Pam Close who is offered a special thanks for the compassionate and loving care she showed Amparo in her final months. Also, a special thanks to all the clergy, parishioners and friends from St. George who prayed, visited, and helped Amparo during her time in the nursing home.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. George Romanian Catholic Cathedral, 1123 44th St. N.E., Canton, OH, 44714 with Very Rev. Ovidiu Marginean, officiating. There will be a memorial meal following the funeral service. A private scattering of her cremains will be held later at Foxfield Preserve in Wilmot, OH per her wishes.
