Barbara Baker Obituary

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Barbara Jean Baker (Landis), age 83, passed peacefully on September 15th, 2025. 

Born on September 25th, 1941, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, she was the eldest child of the late Paul Elton and Arlene Rebecca Landis (Lovelace). A 1959 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, Barbara moved to Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, Raymond Frederick Baker, of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. They were married on September 25th, 1971, relocating to Brunswick, Maryland in 1975, where they resided together until his passing on December 31, 2011. She worked primarily as a legal secretary, as well as volunteering with the Frederick County (Maryland) League of Women Voters, the Brunswick Heritage Museum, the American Red Cross, and Advocates for Homeless Families in Frederick. She was a founding member and served on the board of Unity Church in Frederick.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother (1980), father (1983), and her sister, Carol Ann Powers, of Bath, Ohio (2005). She is survived by her son, Christopher Baker, and daughter-in-law, Christina Bradford, of Jacksonville, Florida; brother-in-law Richard Powers; niece Gena Powers; nephew Michael Powers, his wife Michelle (Charlson), and their children, Emma (Hirsch), Andrew, and Jesse, all of greater Akron, Ohio.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, 2613 Sackett Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brunswick Heritage Museum (40 W Potomac St, Brunswick, MD 21716) in Barbara’s name.
