Betty J. Chenal

RITTMAN – Betty J. Chenal, age 86, went home to her Lord on May 16, 2020. 

Born on November 27, 1933 in Easton, OH, to the late Charles and Anna (Schmittel) Maurer, she was a resident of Rittman since 1956.  A 1951 graduate of Doylestown High School, Betty retired from Columbia Gas after 24 years of service and had previously worked at Ohio Box Board.  She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Rittman, St. Anne Altar Society, and Rittman Senior Citizens. Betty spent a lifetime in service as a devoted caregiver to many family members. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed hosting family picnics and celebrations and took great care in making everyone’s favorite recipes including a wide variety of pies, and Christmas cookies.

Preceded in death by her husband, Roland in 1987; sister, Ruth Maurer; brothers, Edward (Beulah) Maurer, Richard Maurer, she is survived by her daughter, Sandra Chenal; son, Steven (Teresa) Chenal all of Rittman; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, William (Beatrice) Maurer of FL; sister-in-law Barbara Maurer of CO,  many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A private family mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Moran, Celebrant.  Burial will take place at St. Anne Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the staff of the Apostolic Christian Home and the Gilcrest Center for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty’s honor to support the Activity Departments at both the Gilcrest Center, 593 Gates St., Doylestown, OH 44230 and the Apostolic Christian Home, 10680 Steiner Rd., Rittman, OH 44270.  Online obituary and guest registry are available at www.zakmonbarrenfh.com
