SARASOTA, FL - Betty L. Long, age 89, passed away peacefully in Sarasota, Florida on April 25, 2023.  Betty was born to the late Charles and Helen (Lucas) Sungy on August 22, 1933 in Barberton, Ohio.  Betty lived most of her life in Doylestown, Ohio before moving to Florida with her daughter and son-in-law.  Betty was an eternal optimist, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all.  Caring, compassionate, and gracious, Betty was often described as an angel.  She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, cooking, and traveling, but most of all, she loved her family and friends.  Betty was a woman of endless faith and hope.  Within minutes of meeting her, one was welcomed into the warmth and charm of her presence.  Betty saw the best in others and lived her life with an open heart.  Betty married her high school sweetheart, William Long.  Throughout their 53 years together, they shared many adventures, travels, and road trips.  They especially enjoyed camping with the camper club.  Betty was a lifelong member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church where she and her husband enjoyed facilitating the food cupboard.  Betty was employed with Chippewa Local Schools for 33 years as a school secretary.  She influenced so many lives throughout her career.  Betty and William had two children together, William and Pamela.  She is remembered as a patient and loving mother who could make the most of any situation; she truly was the heart of her family and a source of strength for all.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Long; son, William C. Long; sisters, Nora (Richard) Cooper, Katherine Hammonds, Mary Goehler, Penny Villers; Betty is lovingly survived by her daughter, Pamela Long-Rice (Robert) of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; her grandson, William R.
