DOYLESTOWN - Constance R. Clausen, age 75, passed away on June 3, 2024, following a courageous fight with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on January 21, 1949 in Akron to the late Warren and Lillian (Dirrig) Barkey,
Connie graduated from Manchester High School, where she met the love of her life, Ken Clausen. In September 1968 they were married. Over the next four years Connie attended the University of Akron where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Some years later she received a Master’s Degree + 15 in Outdoor Education from the same institution.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she loved dogs, teaching, gardening, camping, attending car shows and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii every winter, and took many memorable trips over the years. She particularly enjoyed attending Buckeye Leadership Workshop near Columbus, Ohio every year where she learned new skills which helped her become an excellent teacher.
She retired from Chippewa Local Schools in 2000, working as a Third and sometimes First Grade Teacher at Hazel Harvey Elementary School. She was instrumental in bringing a Cocker Spaniel into her Third grade class for an entire school year to teach her students about love and responsibility for caring for animals. She and another teacher established and maintained a nature path near Hazel Harvey Elementary School where children could gain a greater appreciation for nature and foster a love for the outdoors. She was a member of Tiretown Corvette Club and also loved driving her Shay Model A.
Connie was a kind person who truly enjoyed the beauty of life and was very generous and gracious to all. She had a passion for living which showed in her enthusiastic and devoted approach to any challenge or activity which she undertook. Her strong Christian faith was evident by the manner in which she lived her life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Ken, married 55 years.
She is reunited with her brother, James W. Barkey and brother-in-law Ron Greening. Connie is survived by her husband, Ken F. Clausen of Doylestown; children, David (Heather) Clausen of San Francisco, California, and Ken (Ruth) Clausen of Saratoga Springs, New York; grandchildren, Sophie and Isabel Clausen; sister-in-law, Kathy Greening, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Gilcrest Center in Doylestown, Advantage Home Health Services and Advantage Hospice Company for their loving, compassionate care over the past year.
