NORTH LAWRENCE – Cordell Garrett, age 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 11, 2026.
He was born on August 29, 1942 in Barberton, OH to the late Walter and Willie (Abston) Garrett. A veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army, Cordell was a resident of North Lawrence since 1970, previously of Barberton.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rose and eleven siblings of which he was the youngest. They included brothers, Floyd, Walter Jr., Odell, Otis, Harold, O.C., Lloyd “Skeeter” and sisters, Essie Mae “Bootsie” Whal, Kathy Hammock, Stella Mae “Tootsie” Robinson, and Carol Handwerk and Great Granddaughter Harlow Lucille. He is survived by his beloved children Cordell A. (Karan) Garrett of Canton, and Sandra Indorf of North Lawrence whom devoted their lives to making sure he could spend his last years at home with family. Grandchildren, Cordell “C.J.” Garrett III, Marcella Rose (Tristen) Bricker, Joseph Cordell (Morgan) Indorf; great grandchildren, Quinton Cordell, Luna Belle, and Nicholas Cordell on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was a member of The Sons of Herman in Massillon where he frequented often and made lots of life long friends. He was an honorable and well respected man who now has 5 descendants to carry on his name and legacy, consisting of his son, grandsons and great grandsons. Cordell was an avid fisherman and will mostly be remembered for his love of music, amazing ability to play guitar and sing, and his love for our country he served. You would often find him with a cowboy hat, chew tin and guitar watching old westerns or gardening.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 29 E. Main, Dalton, OH, 44618.
