BARBERTON – Donald “Don” Damron, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022 with his family by his side.
Born on January 17, 1930 in Shelbiana, KY to the late Verlon and Maxie (Blackburn) Damron, he was a resident of Barberton for the past 17 years, previously of Kenmore for 36 years. A veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army, Don retired from the Ford Motor Company engine plant in Cleveland after 32 years of service. He loved fishing and listening to bluegrass music.
Preceded in death by his wife Zella Lois in 2019; son in-law, Roger Nester; granddaughter Brandi; brothers, Denver, Paul Dean, and Johnny; sister, Lois Jean Thacker, he is survived by his daughters, Jan Damron of Barberton, Donna Nester of Man, WV, Annette Damron of Barberton, Janey (Doug) Colbert of Akron; grandchildren, Matthew(Amy), Amy(Jason), Chad, Eric(Bridgette), Kayla(Andrew); great grandchildren Brady, Bella, Emma, Issaiah, Ellie, Colton, Alexa, Ronald and Bayleigh; siblings, Ellen Gaye Millard, Sarah Ann Smith, Billy Ed (Sally) Damron, Minda McCabe, Linda (Dean) Sawyers, Angela (Adam) Robinson; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral service will be Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230 with Pastor Cecil Farmer, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Akron, OH. Calling hours will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
