DOYLESTOWN - Peacefully surrounded by her family, Doris S. Aldrich (Spencer) went home to join the Lord on October 31st. Doris (our “Gigi”) was married to her high school sweetheart, Bob, for 67 years. Doris started her career as a dietician, at the Columbus Children’s home, and then served many local nursing homes. She finished her career retiring as a professor emeritus at the University of Akron, where she developed their first dietetic program. You would never find Mom without cards in her hand, a puzzle book nearby, and a song in the air. She was a life master at bridge and enjoyed playing cards with her friends, and especially her grandchildren. She loved writing poetry, traveling, crafting, and singing with the Sweet Adeline’s.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Bob, son Jeff, sister Dorothy Orr, brother Neil Spencer, and great granddaughter Avery Bush. Leaving behind daughters Sue (Paul) Petit, Barb Aldrich, son John (Kathryn) Aldrich, grandchildren Sara (Casey) Tester, Gabe (Brittany) Petit, Katlyn (Zach) Bush, Seth (Abby) Petit, Hannah (Marko) Ayala, Stephen Aldrich, Michael (Elizabeth) Aldrich, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her family extends special thanks to our dear friend Carol Greer. Special thanks also to Diana and Mom’s entire Traditions Health Hospice team for their extraordinary, compassionate care.
Private services will be held by the family with inurnment at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. In her memory, memorials may be made to The Doylestown Community Food Cupboard, Traditions Health Hospice, or the University of Akron Foundation - "Aldrich Scholarship" on memo line.
