Eileen Mary Nicholas

MARSHALLVILLE - Eileen Mary Nicholas (nee Besancon) died and entered into eternal life on June 9, 2021 surrounded by her loving family, after having received the grace and consolation of the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. She was born on April 28, 1926 in Calmoutier, OH to the late Francis A. and Laura J. (Pailliotet) Besancon.  At a young age, the family moved closer to Wooster, OH.  Eileen was a graduate of Smithville High School class of 1944 and later began a career as a teletypist at the Daily Record.  On April 27, 1957 she married Anthony A. Nicholas who preceded her in death after 57 years of marriage in 2014.  Eileen was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Barberton, OH, participating in the perpetual adoration holy hour program.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed working word puzzles, walking, and was an active participant in two senior citizen euchre card clubs. Her vocation and greatest joy in life was as devoted wife, loving mother of six children, and adored grandmother of seven grandchildren.  She fulfilled that calling with total commitment, wisdom, humor, hard work, and above all a strong faith in God.  She is survived by children, Susan (Gregory) Papiernik of Lemont, IL, Robert Nicholas of Marshallville, OH, Richard Nicholas of Joliet, IL, Karen (Gregory) Schnelzer of Wadsworth, OH, Kathryn (John) Scarpitti of Salem, OH, Maria Nicholas of Farmers Branch, TX; grandchildren Timothy, Brian, and Matthew Papiernik, Jack and Madelyn Schnelzer, Nicholas and Carolyn Scarpitti. Additionally, Eileen is survived by brothers Raymond (Rosemary) Besancon of Smithville, OH,  Richard (Lea Ann) Besancon of Smithville, OH, Ronald (Paulette) Besancon of Wooster, OH; sister-in-law Betty Besancon of Sterling, OH and brother-in-law Steve Tope of Wooster, OH; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Adrian, Joseph, Vincent, and sisters Bernadette, Beatrice, and Mary Jane. Friends and family may call on Monday, June 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage Street, Doylestown, OH.   A rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m.  Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 6th Street N.W., Barberton, OH on Tuesday, June 15 at 12:00 noon with Fr. David Majikas officiating and homilist Fr. James Semonin.   Burial will take place at St. Genevieve Cemetery, Calmoutier, OH.  Following the graveside service, a luncheon will be hosted by the family at Berlin Farmstead Restaurant, 4757 Township Road 366, Berlin, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls 1140 W. Jackson Boulevard Chicago, IL  60607, or American Life League P.O.
