James A. Streb

DALTON – James A. Streb, age 95, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Born on December 23, 1928 in Canton, OH to the late Victor G. and Erna (Beiter) Streb, he was a lifelong resident of Dalton.  A 1946 graduate of Dalton High School, Jim was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army.  Working for his father at the age of 8 cutting meat, he worked for 38 years at Streb Meats and then retired as the head custodian for Dalton Local Schools with 34 years of service.  Jim attended Chapel of the Cross, Dalton Methodist, and most recently, Dalton Presbyterian Church.  His passions were gardening, recycling, and volunteering for different organizations.  He also enjoyed collecting stamps.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel in 2022 and his brothers, Arnold and Carl Streb.  Surviving are his children, Susan (Les) Schumacher of Kidron, Mark (Myrna) Streb, Amy Streb and Paul (Karen) Streb, all of Dalton: grandchildren, Kristina Parkanzky, Kelly (Jeremy) Hull, Angela (Brian) Anderson, Lindsay (Max) Ramsay and Abby (Brad) Withrich: fourteen great-grandchildren, Mark and Sterling Parkanzky; Collin and Cora Hull; Luke, Cole, and Megan Anderson; Mallory, Seth, Cassidy, and Bryce Ramsay; Hadley, Caden, and Grayson Withrich; nieces, Carla Miller and Deb Himes; nephew Craig Streb; other family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Aultman Hospice and Shady Lawn Health Care for their care of Jim and a special thank you to daughter Amy for her expert and loving care of Dad.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Dalton Presbyterian Church, 163 W. Main St., Dalton, OH 44618 with Pastor Sally Fusek, officiating. Burial to take place at Dalton Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 am until time of service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aultman Hospice, 2600 Sixth St. S.W., Canton, OH, 44710.
