James R. "Jim" Darnell

DOYLESTOWN - James R. “Jim” Darnell, age 65, left his loving wife and family on May 1, 2024.

Born on June 27, 1958 in South Bend, IN to the late Forrest and Barbara (Van Valkenburgh) Darnell, he was a graduate of Glendale High School in Springfield, MO and then obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron.  A resident of Doylestown for 31 years, previously of Barberton, Jim had been employed by the Standard Coffee Company with 32 years of service.  He had a love for vacationing and spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his great granddaughter Piper.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Brenda, their children, James (Sarah) Darnell, Vicki (Jeremy “Jay”) Gartin, Jeff (Michaela) Darnell, Scott Darnell, Ashley Darnell; grandchildren, Savannah, Ella, Adalynn, Gavin, and Brantley Darnell, Gabrielle, Kyleigh, Saige, Ryder, and Kensi Gartin and one on the way; great granddaughter, Lily; brother, Doug (Jill) Darnell and their children, Dan and Ben; special high school friends, Bob Darden, Dave Dennison, Rodger Daugherty, Keith Darden; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat (Denny) Nettle, Vicki (Ray) Adorni, Dennis (Darlene) Street, Kenny (Linda) Street, Vince (Beth) Street; other family and many dear friends.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230 with Pastor Rod Grabski, officiating.  Burial will take place at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.  Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.  Online obituary and guest registry are available at www.zakmonbarrenfh.com
