DOYLESTOWN – John W. Close, age 86, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Born in Doylestown, OH on August 27, 1938 to the late Welker and Beatrice (Huth) Close, John had been a life-long resident of Doylestown. Serving in the US Army, he retired from KeyBank as an Assistant Vice President and later retired from Manpower. A member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, he enjoyed reading, traveling, and hiking, especially to the Grand Canyon and Guadalupe Mountains with his sons. John loved watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Close and William Close. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elaine; children, Denise (Ronald) Schwinn of Cape Coral, FL, John M. (Olga) Close of Horizon City, TX, and Michael (Carly) Close of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Taylor Schwinn, Ashley Schwinn (Nick Mack), Joseph Close, Michael Close, Anthony Zamora, Kai Close, and Reid Close; sister, Linda Snader of Doylestown; other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 161 W. Clinton St., Doylestown, OH, 44230, with Fr. Peter Morris, Celebrant. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 6111 Oak Tree Blvd., Suite S, Independence, OH, 4413.
