DOYLESTOWN - John E. Hrivnak, age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 17th, 2025. John was born November 18th, 1930 in Tarentum, PA., son of the late Joseph and Anna (Simonides) Hrivnak. John was married to his late wife, Carol (Ries) for 64 years, raising a family of two sons in New Franklin (Manchester), Ohio. After graduation from Carnegie-Mellon University (Magna Cum Laude), John joined Goodyear Polyester Research & Development as Manager where he served for 39 years instrumental in many company patents including the development of polyester tire cord and the two-liter bottle.
John was deeply rooted in his faith and served the Lord alongside his wife Carol for more than 50 years as active members of their church, Grace Bible Church (formerly Manchester Trinity Chapel). John served on the church council as an Elder for decades and served on the board of directors Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron, Ohio for over 40 years.
After retirement, John continued to be very active serving people through the church and Haven of Rest Ministries. He spent much time traveling with Carol, following baseball, basketball and football and his other passions of hunting and fishing – enjoying fishing late into his years.
John is survived by his two sons James (Pam) and Thomas (Nancy) Hrivnak, 3 grandchildren, Erin Branfied, Melissa Hrivnak, and Hannah Tate as well as 3 great grandchildren, Beckham, Nora and Isla Branfield; numerous nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his wife Carol, parents Joseph and Anna Hrivnak, sisters Anne Ridgely, Josephine Shutts, Mary Novak, Ruth Hrivnak and brother Joseph Hrivnak killed serving in World War II.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St, Doylestown, 44230. Funeral service will be held Monday, August 25, 2025 at Grace Bible Church, 5781 Manchester Rd, New Franklin, OH, 44319 with calling hours from 9.30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Cary Duckett, officiating. Graveside service to follow at Manchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church or The Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 E. Market St., Akron, OH, 44308.
