DALTON – John W. Merriman, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on April 26, 2024.
Born on October 11, 1955 in Orrville, OH to the late William J. and Kathryn L. (Sommer) Merriman, he was a lifelong resident of Dalton. A 1974 graduate of Dalton High School, he was class president and would have celebrated his 50 year class reunion later this year. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, John retired from GreenField Farms and had been employed by Buckeye Feed for many years and also was a general manager at Hartzler Dairy. He attended Christian and Missionary Alliance in Orrville and enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, aviation, the Cleveland Browns, and was known as the family weatherman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Donna. John is survived by his children, Rachel (Brett) Cote and Valerie (Jacob) Metz of Mason, OH, Joshua and Jared Merriman of Dalton; grandchildren, Parker and Lillian Cote, Molly, Jackson and Emme Metz; sisters, Denise Shapaka, Diane Merriman; brother, Alan (Shelley) Merriman, Joe Shapaka all of Dalton; nieces, nephews, companion, Mary Minnick other family and many friends.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Orrville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 300 S. Walnut St., Orrville, OH 44667 with Pastor Paul Simonsen, officiating. Burial to take place at Dalton Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
