CANTON – John L. Weldon, age 84, passed away on September 22, 2021.
Born on July 29, 1937 in Massillon, OH to the late Floyd Sr. and Nellie (Owens) Weldon, he was resident of Canton for three years, previously of Dalton for 25 years, and formerly of Hertford, NC and Virginia Beach, VA. John retired in 1978 from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service and having been part of the Vietnam War. He then worked in civil service for the U.S. Government for an additional 20 years. John was a member of the Police Association of Virginia and the American Legion.
Preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2018; daughters, Pamela Everett, Teresa Myers; brothers, Floyd and Richard Weldon; sisters, Julia Fortney, Wanda Horvath, Doris Richmond, Mary Garner, Loretta Hepp, he is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Alton) Davidson of Canton; sons, Jon Weldon of SC, Patrick (Lyn) Weldon of Holly Springs, NC; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Sally Slusser of Dalton, OH; other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church, 2813 Lincoln Way West, Massillon, OH, 44647 with Fr. Matthew Mankowski, Celebrant.
