DOYLESTOWN – John Ziegenheim, age 87, passed away on November 3, 2024.
Born in Varsad, Hungary, to the late Andy and Susan (Bariencik) Ziegenheim, he was a resident of Doylestown for 20 years, previously of Akron. A veteran of the U.S. Army, John was the owner and operator of The Car Shop on Massillon Rd. in Akron where he did both body and mechanical work for many years. John had a couple of old cars he cherished, for example his 1932 Ford Coupe, but his passion was drag racing where he personally raced a few of his cars. He attended Doylestown United Methodist Church and was a very active individual, always having to be doing something.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepfather, John Shipka. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara, his two K-9 fur babies, Katie and Molly; nieces, Juanita Greenwood, Karen Sutter, Kathy (Dave) Starkey, Diane (Bobbie) Renninger; nephew, Bill Rinehart; sister-in-law, Caroline Reese; special friend, Marie Gayetski/Ghadiri; other family and many friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November, 8, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH 44230, and will conclude with a service at 7 p.m. with Pastor Carolyn Berry, officiating. A private burial will be held at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
