Joyce N. VanHorn

DOYLESTOWN – Joyce N. VanHorn, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on December 10, 2022.

Born on December 8, 1930 in Akron, OH to the late Jason and Grace (Shafer) Evans, she was a resident of Doylestown since 1957. Joyce retired from Chippewa Local Schools as a cafeteria employee after 22 years of service. She was a member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church and also the Wingettes Book Club. Joyce loved to travel and was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play their various sports. She also liked to root for all the Cleveland teams and the University of Akron.

Joyce had beautiful blue eyes and a wonderful smile. She was a great listener and friend to so many. Those that knew her well appreciated her ornery spirit. She had the best sense of humor and came up with the most unexpected one liners. She will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Guyle R.; son, Guyle “Rich;” an infant brother and brother-in-law, Cecil Query. She is survived by her son, Mark (Marilyn) VanHorn of Berea, OH; daughter, Denise (Spiros) Vasilatos of Doylestown, OH; grandsons, Nicholas and Adam Vasilatos; step grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Drahos, and Jennifer (Matt) Brockman; step great grandchildren, Emma, Lucas, Peyton, and Grayson; daughter-in-law, Cathy VanHorn of Circleville, OH; sisters, Janet (Roger) Hagstrom of Green, OH, Sharon Evans of Akron; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Doylestown United Methodist Church, 153 Church St., Doylestown, OH 44230 with Pastors Carolyn Berry and Carl Dulin co-officiating. Burial to take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling hours will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Doylestown United Methodist Church or Chippewa Excellence in Education, 56 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230.
