CUYAHOGA FALLS – Joyce “Joy” M. Kiser, age 74, author of “America’s Other Audubon,” passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2022.
Born on January 29, 1947 in Akron to the late Thomas J. and Marian (Markle) Mondl, she was a resident of Cuyahoga Falls for the last 9 years, previously of Doylestown and the Washington, DC area. Joy had retired from The US Department of Justice (ATF) in 2013 and went on to work for the United Way of Greater Cleveland. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s many activities and bird watching. She captured many special moments through her camera lens with artistic precision. She was a lover of all creatures, great and small.
Winner of the Ohioana Book Award in 2013, she was also a featured participant at the Ohio Book Festivals and Buckeye Book Fairs in 2012 and 2013. She traveled extensively to present and share her interest and many years of research on the Jones’ family which culminated in the writing of her book.
She is survived by her daughter, Heather (Chris) Zindash of MD; son, Adam (Marianna) Kiser of Doylestown; grandchildren, Bella, Zoe, Mark, Benjamin, Maia and Ethan; sister, Carol (Larry) Lloyd; brother, John Mondl; cousins, Barbara Wulff, Andrea (Michael) Dorsey, Anne (Howard) Cooper, Stuart Austin and Laura Austin; many other family and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, 44230.
