DALTON – Larry A. Meszaros, age 85, passed away on April 25, 2026.
He was born on November 20, 1940 in Akron, OH to the late Joe and Hettie (Bennett) Meszaros. A graduate of Coventry High School, he was a resident of Dalton for 55 years, retiring from Local #18, District 6 of the Operating Engineers.
Larry loved life and cherished his family. He enjoyed many interests and activities over the years. A lifetime of stories often included his brothers. In early times there was building race cars with his brothers and actually racing them. There was a lifelong consistent love for them and their wives. He enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball team as much as success later coaching women’s teams. After completing his many years as a heavy equipment operator, it became a not so easy attempt at playing golf for many fun years and experiencing interesting and beautiful travels with his wife. Growing vegetables in his garden and sharing stories with neighbors and friends were favorite pastimes, especially early morning coffee, laughs, and discussions at the locals over the years.
The joy of his life has been his daughter Sarah. He always supported and helped her with all she did and through her joys and sorrows. Sarah has become a loving caregiver and support for him while taking care of some of his needs and many of the family responsibilities. She has been a blessing for him.
Larry’s eight-year-old grandson has always been his shining light, and Elliott kept him smiling. Larry enjoyed supporting him in his activities. He even enjoyed fixing his broken toys and getting him new ones. Pop and Elliott had a lot of good times in the mornings caring for and teaching each other. Then each morning Pop would drive him to school.
Larry was very proud of his long-time service with the Operating Engineers, Local #18, and he was forever dedicated to the Cleveland Browns and to his wife of 57 years.
Recent days would find him with a cat on his lap, talking politics, still getting smiles with a funny remark or two. A little joke or chuckle was always his calling card.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Ethan Eschman, and brother, Douglas Meszaros. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen; daughter, Sarah (Edward) Eschman of North Lawence; grandson, Elliott; brothers, Ronald (Ellen) Meszaros of AL, Jack Meszaros of Manchester, OH; sister-in-law, Cathy Meszaros of AK; other family and friends.
A private inurnment will take place at the convenience of the family at Dalton Cemetery. Online obituary and guest registry are available at www.zakmonbarrenfh.com
