Huntingburg, IN – Laurie J. Gibson, age 66, passed away on August 4, 2023 after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.
Born on September 19, 1956 in Akron, OH to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Howard) Lavery, Laurie grew up in Fairlawn and was a 1975 graduate of Copley High School. Laurie married the love of her life, Dean, in 1988 and they raised their children in Copley, OH, before finally settling in Huntingburg, IN for the past twenty years. Laurie loved to study art history and had an eclectic style when it came to decorating her home. She had a knack for creating beautiful wall collages with unique pieces, that when finished, looked as if they belonged together all along. Laurie loved caring for her animals, working in the yard, collecting books, and uplifting others. She would often send cards and gifts to friends and family, simply to brighten their day. One of her favorite things to do was spend the day riding through the countryside with Dean on their motorcycle, often visiting their special spot in French Lick, IN. In her spare time, Laurie enjoyed volunteering at Shared Abundance, an outreach service of Christian Ministries of Huntingburg, IN and running several Facebook pages, including a book page and her beloved art page. Her true joy was that of being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and spent the last couple months surrounded by her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Lavery. She leaves behind her loving husband of 35 years, Dean, her children, Angela (Richard) Potter of Norton, OH, Jeramy Gibson of Marysville, OH, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Watters of Norton, OH; grandchildren, Aiden and Alivia Potter, Abby (Nick) Leon, Victoria Gibson; great-grandson, Grayson Leon, great-granddaughter due in November; brother, Robert Lavery of Fairlawn, OH; sister, Colleen (Jerry) Olinger of New Franklin, OH; niece, Alixandra Olinger, nephew, Ian Olinger; Brothers-in-law, Dwain (Terry) Gibson and John (Kim) Gibson; her dogs, Frankie and Little Girl, and her cats, Harriet and BB; many family and friends.
