MARSHALLVILLE – Lavone Kays, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 4, 2026.
Born on January 20, 1941 in Harrodsburg, KY as one of sixteen children born to the late Elmer R. and Hattie (Shewmaker), Lavone had resided the past three years in Barberton and was previously a resident of Marshallville since 1967. Having retired from Doylestown Health Care center she loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed spending time with her twin sister.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Garnett M. Kays; great grandsons, Maxton, and Solomon; and 14 of her siblings, she is survived by her daughter, Sue (Tom) Steiner of Sebring, FL; son, Wayne (Joan) Kays of Doylestown; grandchildren, Rashelle (Kurt) Korbas, Kyle Kays, Emily (Ryan) Berenyi, Amanda Osburn, Stephanie (Aaron) Mensink, Thomas “Tommy” (Elizabeth) Steiner; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; brother, Paul L. Blacketer of KY, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral service will be on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230 with Pastor Shane Yusten, officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Marshallville, OH. Calling hours will be one hour prior to service time on Friday.
