Marian R. Stapleton

Our mother passed peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of November 4, 2019 at the age of 89 after a long illness. She was born September 29, 1930, in Coldwater, MI, to Russell William and Mary Eliza Abel Court.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jack Sherburne, of Ann Arbor MI, and her husband, Leo J. Stapleton Jr., also of Ann Arbor. She is survived by her daughters, Julie (Robert) Cieslak, of Cadillac, MI; Carol (Bernard) Ozbolt, of Doylestown, OH; and her sons, Matthew, of Ann Arbor, MI, and Michael (Lisa), of Fort Wayne, IN; she is also survived by her brother, David (Paula) Court, and her niece, Claudia Court, of Atlanta, GA, and her sister-in-law, Marion Sherburne, of Webberville, MI. She was grandmother to Jessica and Nichole Cieslak, of Grand Rapids, MI, and Mary Hope, Therese, and Clare Ozbolt of Doylestown and Akron, OH. Our mother loved the outdoors, birdwatching, spending time with her grandchildren, travel, the family cats, and following the fortunes of the Detroit Tigers. She worked for many years at J.C. Penney Company in Ann Arbor, and served as a Girl Scout leader.  She was an excellent conversationalist about family lore, politics, psychology, nature, and history, a trusted counselor and source of needed wisdom about life and people.
