MARSHALLVILLE – Mary Alice Bragg (nee Schmid), age 102, passed away on November 12, 2021 at Aultman Orrville Hospital with her loving companion, Bob Oakes, by her side.
Born September 22, 1919 in Orrville, OH, to the late Peter and Anna (nee Stitle) Schmid, she had been a resident of Marshallville since 1944. Mary was a 1939 graduate of Orrville High School where she was a member of the marching band playing french horn. Mary opened the Putnam Post House Restaurant in 1951 with her husband, Robert Bragg, and continued working until her retirement in 2017. She was a member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church, the Doylestown Literary Guild, and the Marshallville Lions Club. Her spunky personality created a love for chasing sunsets and hot air balloons. Mary loved traveling, playing cards with family, doing puzzles, and making pineapple upside down cake. Her secret to a long happy life was a scoop (or two) of ice cream every night; Ruggles of course, to honor her family’s ties to Smith Dairy. At the age of 92, she went on her first mission trip to Nashville, TN proving that you’re never too old to try something new.
Mary was survived by her children, Gerald (Nancy) Bragg of Massillon, Bruce (Linda) Bragg of Crestline, OH, Roberta (Jeff) Gleason of Marshallville, Alan Bragg (Tammy Wielinga) of Greensboro, GA, Suzanna (Bob) West of Marshallville; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Robert Oakes; other family and many dear friends.
Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Putnam Bragg; daughter Gail Tuttle; brother, Raymond Schmid; and sister Georgia Boone.
