Mildred L. Fahrni

DALTON - On October 7, 2023, Mildred L. (Steiner) Fahrni, our dearest Mother, Grandma, Aunt and Friend, went to her heavenly home at the age of 91. She passed away at Brewster Parke Assisted Living in Brewster, OH under hospice care.

Mildred was born February 26, 1932, in Dalton, OH, to the late Reuben and Mary Catherine (Totten) Steiner. She grew up in Dalton and went to Dalton High School and was recognized by the Class of 1950. She met the love of her life Ernest (Ernie) Fahrni, and they were married on June 18, 1950 at her parent's home. During their marriage, they had two children, John and Sheila. They had been wonderfully married for almost 42 years before Ernie sadly passed away on April 25, 1992. For most of her adult life, Mildred was a homemaker and a stay-at-home mother for her two children. But for a time, she did work as a waitress and as a cleaner at the Stanwood Community Church, where Mildred and Ernie became life-long members. She also had been a member in the United Swiss Americans of Canton, the Elderberries - a Stanwood ladies’ group and the Hardee's Breakfast Club. The latter not being an official group, but what Mildred refereed to it as.

Our beautiful Mother and Grandma will always be remembered for her strong faith, being a caretaker, spirited, kind and for her devotion and love to her family and community. She had a joy for traveling. She traveled to most of the 50 states and also went to Switzerland with Ernie and took other trips with family and friends. She also enjoyed solitaire, word search puzzles, watching TV (especially her Westerns) & gardening. Mildred had a deep fondness for pink roses and for birds & animals, especially Bluebirds. But Mildred, above all, enjoyed time with her family and friends.

Mildred is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, John (Karen) Fahrni of Massillon, OH and son-in law, Ronald Stockburger of Edergton, OH. Her four grandchildren, Josh (Kayla) Stockburger of Archbold, OH, Rebecca Fahrni of North Platte, NE, Catherine Stockburger of Archbold, OH and Peter Fahrni of Massillon, OH. And also, her sister-in-law, Wanda Steiner of Orrville, OH and many nieces and nephews, family, and friends who loved and adored her. Before she passed, she had been made aware by her grandson Joshua and his wife Kayla that they were expecting, and she was going to be a Great Grandma. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Ernie, her daughter Sheila Stockburger, her brother Larry Steiner, her sister & brother-in-law, Mary Helen (Dale) Eggeman and her brother & sister-in-law, Gary (Ginny) Steiner.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 20th at 11 a.m. at Stanwood Community Church, 14715 Stanwood St. SW, Navarre, OH 44662, with Pastor Toby Oaks officiating. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St., Dalton 44618 and one hour prior to service time at the church on Friday.
