Patricia "Pat" A. Mong

DOYLESTOWN - Patricia Ann Mong (née Petit) died peacefully on July 3rd, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 23rd, 1939 in Doylestown, Ohio and grew up with her three siblings, Richard, Janet, Thomas.

After graduating from Doylestown High School in 1957, she started working at Ohio Boxford as a secretary. She met her future-husband Paul Mong while dancing at St. Augustine CYO. Paul took her to see a drive-in movie on their first date, and after ten months, she proposed to him! He responded in a quintessentially Paul way: “I have to go home and think about it.” He must have thought right, because they wed at St Peter and Paul Church in Doylestown, Ohio on May 7th, 1960 and spent the next 66 years together happily married. 

After marrying, she spent her life loving her family and giving back to her community through her work with Meals on Wheels, CYO, Barberton Community Ministries and many more . Throughout her life, Pat was a beloved member of her Doylestown community and faithfully attended Mass at Prince of Peace Parish in Barberton. While raising four children, they ran The Soda Shoppe in Doylestown, where Pat was famous for her broccoli cheddar soup. 

She loved widely and easily; she loved many people and things. She loved her children and her grandchildren, and other people’s children and grandchildren. She loved her husband, and especially loved dancing the polka with him. She loved drinking coffee on a porch with a view. It didn’t even need to be a particularly nice view. Any view would do, as long as it was coffee on the porch. She loved euchre, yard sales, and pedicures. She loved the color purple, watches, and back scratches. She loved to laugh, and laughed easily, even if the joke was not particularly funny (though, when it was particularly funny, she would also utter a sly “Oh s--t!” while wiping tears from her eyes. It was her only profanity, and we have to imagine she loved that too.) She loved the Lord and believed vehemently in angels. 

Pat Mong never missed a chance to see her three grandchildren compete, perform, or simply share a meal with them. She was the ultimate cheerleader, confidant, and ally, sometimes even against their own parents. To be perfectly honest it could be said that she spoiled them, but the writers of this obituary (conveniently, her three grandchildren) will never confirm this in written publication.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Donald, Richard, and Thomas Petit; sister, Janet Pollard.  She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Paul; daughters, Mary (Jim Brown) Price of Wadsworth, Joan (Mike) Clark of Hudson, OH, Carol (Ryan) Millsap of Cincinnati, Diane (Chris) Hendricks of Munich, Germany; and grandchildren, Emily (Jamie Magagna) Clark of Lugano, Switzerland, Molly (Ian) Murphy of University Heights, OH, Sam (Katie) Clark, of Rome, GA; one great granddaughter, Emilia Magagna and two on the way. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Parish, 1263 Shannon Ave., Barberton, OH, 44203 with Fr. Robert Jackson, Celebrant.  Burial will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Doylestown.  Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Youth Organization, Barberton Community Ministries, Prince of Peace Parish or the American Cancer Society.
