DOYLESTOWN – Paul D. Nitz, age 75, passed away after a 12-day fight with cancer on August 15, 2022.
Born on November 24, 1946 in Alpena, MI to the late Alfred and Irene (Gipson) Nitz, Paul had been a resident of Doylestown for 43 years, previously of Akron. A graduate of South High School in Akron in 1966, he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. Paul retired from the Babcock and Wilcox Co. after 48 years of service.
Paul was a lifetime member of the Barberton VFW #1066. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, wood crafting, and most of all spending time with his family. His family said he had a very unique sense of humor. After retiring, Paul spent his winters in Florida and loved going on road trips including going to Nova Scotia and traveling Route 66.
Preceded in death by his parents, Paul is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathryn Nitz; children, Mary Alice (Jim) Rogers of Hartville, Paul Nitz of Tallahassee, FL, Mallory (Dustin) Goldson of Hartville, and Alyson (Michael) Lukats of Barberton; grandchildren, Logan, Luke, London, and Wyatt Rogers, Noelle (Dylan) Puterbaugh, Landry, Grayson, Blakelynn, and Weston Goldston, and Cora Lukats; sisters, Billie Jean Cuppett of Akron, Judy (Bill) McDermot of Cuyahoga Falls, and Janet Nitz of Cuyahoga Falls; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Paul leaves behind his golf buddies and best friend, Jim Yoder, whom he met in Vietnam, later became his best man at his wedding, and then worked with him at B&W for 45 years.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown. Inurnment with military honors will immediately follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paul’s passionate cause; the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org/donate).
