DOYLESTOWN – Ralph W. Jarvis, age 93, passed away on September 27, 2024 due to a recent illness.
He was born on July 5, 1931 in Harrodsburg, KY, the son of the late Carmi and Pearl (Carr) Jarvis and had been a resident of Doylestown since1972, previously of Oxford, OH. He will be interred with honors at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery next to his beloved wife Barbara following a memorial service that will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at the Doylestown United Methodist Church, 153 Church St., Doylestown, OH, 44230 with Pastor Carolyn Berry, officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to the Doylestown United Methodist Church, Youth Group if one feels inclined to do so.
Ralph was a graduate of Miami University receiving a B.S., M Ed., and Ph D. He served in the U.S. Army, Second Armor Division in Korea from 1951 to 1953. A teacher and football coach at Lebanon High School, he had taught in the Mt. Healthy School District as well as being a teacher and principal in the Ross School District. Ralph served as principal in the Talawanda School District for five years and was superintendent of Chippewa Local Schools for 12 years. He then retired as president of the Wooster Business College in 1990 and went on to raising Arabian Horses. Ralph also served on the Doylestown Village Council for 16 years where he was instrumental in getting grant money and providing leadership for many village improvements and was also a member of the Doylestown Lions Club.
He married his late wife Barbara J. (Wagers) on August 21, 1951 and together they raised five children who survive him, Karen Jarvis of Richlands, NC, Kenneth Jarvis of Doylestown, Patty (Roy) Lilley of Wooster, Susan Rueschman of Pompano Beach, FL, Carol (Bryan) Buchwalter of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, James Knapp, Catharine Knapp, Megan Knapp, Alex Lilley, Ryan Lilley, Sam Lilley, Michael Rueschman, Nicholas Rueschman, Noelle Rueschman, and Anna Buchwalter; great grandchildren, William Lilley, and Callum Knapp; other family and many friends.
