Richard D. Matty Jr.

DOYLESTOWN – Richard D. Matty Jr., age 54, passed away on April 28, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 26, 1968 in Barberton, OH to the late Richard and Saundra “Sandy” (Carpenter) Matty, he was a resident of Doylestown for the past 5 years, previously of Clinton.  Employed by Ray Vierheller Automotive, he was an avid IHRA/NHRA drag racer, traveling to racetracks all over the country.

Richard is survived by his sons, Richard D. III (Brittany) Matty of Marshallville, John (Beth) Matty of Smithville, Sarah Holmes and Matthew Holmes; grandchildren, Richard IV, Cassaundra, Emily, Bailey, Emilee, and DJ; significant other Shawna Ferry and grandson Bentlee Holmes, whom they have raised in their home; brother, Michael (Lori) Matty of Ashland, OH; sisters, Linda (Jim) Bates, and Tracey (Jim) Swinehart all of Smithville, OH; other family and special friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Haas and the medical staff of Summa Barberton Hospital and the staff of Crossroads Hospice for their compassion and care of Richard.

A private inurnment will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery in Marshallville, OH at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N.
