WADSWORTH – Rick A. Cope, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on April 26, 2024.
Born on August 11, 1960 in Akron to the late Willie Dee and Edna (Claborn) Cope, he was a resident of Wadsworth Township since 1990. Rick retired from The Ruhlin Co. as a carpenter after 27 years of service. A member of the local carpenters union and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, he loved to hunt and spend time with his son and friends at the Deer Camp, especially hosting the Lucky Shoot each year. Rick immensely enjoyed gardening and canning while “supervising” his siblings help and sharing the fruits of his labor with everyone.
Rick’s true passion though was his family. He loved spending time with his wife Alyson, enjoying many trips together over the years. He was a proud - amazing Dad, giving advice, teaching, and passing on his knowledge and strong work ethic to his kids. Rick was also very proud of his grand babies. He loved each of them and took his role as Papa seriously. Helping with school pick-ups, playing, giving four-wheeler rides, and walking barefoot in the garden. Rick relentlessly supported his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Phil and Alyce Sherman and brother-in-law, Butch Wickwire. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Alyson; son, Ricky (Stephanie) Cope; daughter, Katie (Thomas) Henderson; grandchildren, Lucas Collin, Tinslee Jo, Saylor Jude, Everly Blake, and River Jae; brothers, Roy (Barb) Cope, Ron (Amy) Cope; sisters, Bonnie (Dave) Cook, Betty Wickwire, Barb (Mike) Geimer; brothers-in-law, Phil (Theresa) Sherman, Tim (Lisa) Sherman; sister-in-law Gina (Scott) Erwin, numerous nieces, nephews, other cherished family, and friends.
