WADSWORTH - Roy W. “Sparky” Carver passed away Monday, November 9th, 2020 knowing he was loved by many. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Babe and Elsie Carver on July 10th, 1942. Roy was married for 56 years to the love of his life, MaryAnn (Poder) Carver. A veteran of the U.S. Army for 4 honorable years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who could do no wrong by him. He was notorious for giving everyone he loved a nickname that would stick around for a lifetime and creating songs and tall tales for his grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Babe and Elsie Carver; brother, Jackie Carver; sister, Patsy Kidd; mother-in-law, Mary Poder, and father-in-law, Louis Poder; brother-in-law, Louis “Buddy” Poder. He is survived by his beloved wife, MaryAnn (Poder) Carver; sister, Peggy Hodges (Tim); brothers, Mickey Carver (Carol), Larry Carver (Gloria); children, Roy W. (“Rocky”) Carver Jr. (Susan), Cathy Jo Carver (Chad Andrews); grandchildren, Bryan Hathaway, Dustin Carver (Jamie), Brandyn Carver (Samantha), Justine Carver (Brett Alkyer), and Chelsea Andrews (Tyler Berenyi), Logan Andrews, and Devon Andrews; great-grandchildren, Lance, Landyn, Ellie, Kayson, Garrett, Payton, and one on the way; his niece, Lisa Poder, and several other nieces and nephews he cared for dearly; sisters-in-law, Karen (Jim) McLaughlin, Linda (Marlin) Martin, Arlene Carver; brother-in-law, Kenneth Kidd; other family and friends.
Calling hours, following Covid-19 guidelines requiring facial coverings and social distancing, will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230. Private services will be held by the family with Roy’s cousin, Pastor Glenn Griffith, officiating. Inurnment with military honors will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
