DOYLESTOWN – Thomas A. Barnes, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2021.
Born on June 14, 1947 in Wadsworth to the late Robert and Dorothy (Goffinet) Barnes, he was a life resident of Doylestown. Tom worked at the Doylestown Supermarket for many years and became owner/operator in 1983 until its closing in 1999. He then was employed by Beuhler’s as a meat cutter for a short time. Tom became a member of the Chippewa Township Fire Dept. as a firefighter/EMT in 1969 and was promoted to Chief in 1988. He held that office until his retirement in 2004. A member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, and driving his 1949 Ford and 1996 Mustang. Along with his long-time friend, Paul Hatala, Tom continued his passion for smoking and preparing meats for family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas A. Barnes, Jr.; brother, Larry Barnes; sister, Kathy Lepley; he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marcia; daughter, Meredith (Carlo) Acevedo of Doylestown; daughter in-law, Tonya Barnes of Doylestown; son, Jared Barnes (Wendy) of Doylestown; grandchildren, Taylor (Marvin) Zickefoose, Jordan (Zac) Jung, Alison Barnes, Kacie Barnes, Carlo, Maxwell and Kennedy Acevedo; great granddaughter, Mina Zickefoose; brothers, Robert (Dianne) Barnes, Denny (Sandy) Barnes; brother in-law, Ira Lepley; sister in-law, Kathy Barnes; other family and friends.
Visitation following Covid-19 guidelines requiring facial coverings, social distancing, and limited numbers of guests in the facility, will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown 44230. A private service will be held by the family with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date.
