WADSWORTH – Timothy Shea Flaherty, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 18, 2023. Tim was born in Akron, OH on July 12, 1944 to the late Victor and Pauline (Hogan) Flaherty. A graduate of Barberton High School and The Ohio State University, he was a member of the marching band at both schools. Tim was a teacher in the Wadsworth City School District for 35+ years and loved teaching his students at Franklin Elementary School. He taught percussion lessons for many years and loved puzzles, Sudoku, the outdoors, dogs, listening to Bluegrass/Gospel, and Doo-Wop, and watching the Cleveland Cavaliers and Guardians play. A member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, he enjoyed being a part of the many activities of his children and grandchildren.
Family was very important to Tim, and he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dottie (Toth), who he met in high school and married. Also surviving are his four children, Shea (Wendy) Flaherty, Shannon (Bob) Schmitt, Shawna Flaherty, and Sharleen Flaherty (Bryan); grandchildren, Simeon, Finn, Jaden, Meghan, and Josh; two great-grandchildren; brother, Dave (Jonni) Flaherty; sister, Maureen Gwyn; many other special family members and friends.
The family is grateful to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Summa Barberton Hospital, the Village of St. Edward’s, and the Sanctuary who took care of him during the past few months.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 24, 2023 at 11a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 161 W. Clinton St., Doylestown, OH, 44230 with Fr. Peter Morris, Celebrant. Burial to take place at church cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St. Doylestown, OH 44230.
