Doylestown – Walter G. “Smitty” Smith, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2020.
Born on February 26, 1947 in Cleveland, OH to the late George and Eva (Sinley) Smith, he was a resident of Doylestown for 25 years. A veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam on the USS Ranger (CVA61), Smitty retired from Packaging Corporation of America in Rittman with 34 years of service. He was a member and finance officer for the Doylestown American Legion Post #407, a member of the VFW Post #3446 in Orrville, and a member and past Governor of the Rittman Moose Lodge #860. He loved to be with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and son, Todd Smith; he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Tammy; daughters, Jennifer Ludwig and Jessica Smith both of Doylestown; grandchildren, Lincoln, Ledger, Jagger, Molly (Brandon) Stone; great grandchildren, Wyatt and Weston; son in-law, Lannie Ludwig; daughter in-law, Jeannie Smith ; sisters, Janie Akers and Georgina Hecker both of Wooster; father and mother in-law, Jerry and Faye Baker; sister in-law, Terri Baker; brother in-law, Donald (Carol) Baker; nephew, Nicholas Baker; other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 14th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Rittman Moose Lodge #860, 12527 Sheets Rd., Rittman, OH 44270. A private inurnment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
