DALTON – Wilbur R. Welch, age 86, of Dalton passed away after a period of declining health on June 12, 2023.
He was born on October 29, 1936 at home in Moffitt Heights, OH to Wilbur and Arvilla (Powers) Welch. Mr. Welch graduated from Massillon Washington High School and was named boy of the year at the Massillon Boys Club in 1954. He married Genevieve (Nussbaum) Welch on November 16, 1958. Mr. Welch retired from The Kidron Body Company after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Dalton volunteer fire department from the early 1960’s until the mid-1970’s. He enjoyed bowling, tennis, playing cards and was an avid Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan.
Mr. Welch will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Genevieve; their two sons, Brian (Debra) Welch and Bradley (Donna) Welch, both of Dalton; five grandchildren, Courtney Welch, Jennifer (Jimmy) Daniel, James Welch, Brittney Welch, and Nicholas Welch, and two great-grandsons, Chase and Sebastian. Mr. Welch was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Welch of Massillon; and daughter-in-law, Denise Welch.
The family is being assisted by Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home of Dalton. There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service at Stanwood Cemetery with Pastor David Hobbs officiating will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do a kindness for someone else.
